Sexed Universals
Sexed Universals
The universal is a position you pass through, not a state that you occupy.
This is my contention, that, at any given moment, we can be part of the same condition of meaning, yet differentiated. It is the basis on which I see the universal as both necessary and non-hierarchical.
It means that no given group represents humanity. Yet at the same time, without glossing over our differences, we are all part of a structure that is greater than us.
This is possible because understanding the universal as a position through which you pass changes the temporality of the concept. It renders it mobile. So, for example, when we meet someone and know that we have connected in some way, we might share that connection without denying that whatever it is that has brought us together is going to be an entirely separate journey.
